This talk (recorded at JAOO2006) outlines some of the DDD foundations: How
models are chosen and evaluated; How multiple models coexist; How to avoid the common pitfalls
and how developers and domain experts work together. This talk (runs about 59 minutes) is

There was a high DDD Density at JAOO this year. For example, Eric Evans gave an all-day DDD tutorial as well as a presentation on Strategic Design, Jimmy Nilsson and Kim Harding Christensen gave a presentation about how to apply LINQ to DDD-projects and Rickard Öberg (of JBoss- and AOP-fame) was hunting for feedback on his new framework which is focusing on supporting DDD-projects.

Three practitioner's reports at OOPSLA in Montreal!

OOPSLA 2007 has accepted three practitioner's reports on use of DDD to be presented this October in Montreal.

Earlier this summer, we published versions of two of them right here on
domaindrivendesign.org: "So We Thought We Knew Money" and "IAnticorruption - A Domain-Driven Design Approach To More Robust Integration", both by Ying Hu and Sam Peng of Custom House in Vancouver. (You can read them both at
http://www.domaindrivendesign.org/practitioner_reports/hu_ying_2007_01.html)

The third is a new report from Harald Wesenberg and Einar Landre from StatOil on the synergy of DDD and Test-First. Last year, they presented at OOPSLA about the strategic application of DDD at StatOil. (You can read this at
http://www.domaindrivendesign.org/practitioner_reports/landre_einar_2006_part2.html)

The authors describe the new paper this way:
"At Statoil, two key things really improved the quality of the software we develop inhouse. One of these was Domain-Driven Design, the other was Test First. In this paper we show how we used them together, and the results that we achieved."

OOPSLA 2007 is shaping up to be a particularly interesting conference for DDDers. We'll keep you posted.

During this workshop, Eric will give a brief overview over Domain Driven Design and go deep into three key points: the cultivation of a model based language to connect domain experts, developers, and the code itself; the exploratory interaction of technical and business people in the modeling process; and techniques for dealing with the diversity of models on large projects.

Custom House's new currency exchange system is integrated with a legacy system. After a few years of growth, the two systems were so intricately tangled that even small changes made in the integration layer would have unpredictable side effects. Refactoring on the integration layer was risky and time consuming. The situation called for a revolutionary redesign.
